The Olympic Games are Not a Huge Waste of Money

The issue of whether the Olympics will bring a disaster for economy has been globally debated. Some people extol the virtues of hosting the Olympic Games are essential, while others hold the view that it is a huge waste of money. This essay will argue that the Olympics are important due to two main reasons.

Firstly, the Olympics enable nations across the globe to be involved in culture sharing.  It is because in this occasion only, everyone might experience of seeing a huge number of people, coming from different countries with cultural diversities and blending in peaceful circumstances. Consequently, this event might bring impact on the society which in turn will boost peace among the citizens of the world.

Secondly, it is undoubted that as an incredible international sport event, the Olympics give opportunity to athletes to break new ground. For example, Usain Bolt, a Jamaican sprinter who joined the London 2012 Summer Olympics, has recorded as the fastest men in 100-metre dash competition. As a consequence, beating the existing world records might be beneficial for sportsmen’s future career as they will be offered sponsorship.

By contrast, it is still questionable that a host country will benefit economically. The main reason is because some countries have to pay the debt for many decades after hosting the Olympics. Nevertheless, experience has shown that host city like Los Angeles profited its economy since it did not depend on the models dictated by the committee but created its own by using the existing stadiums and having cooperation with private sectors.

In conclusion, although some people argue about the economic benefit of hosting the Olympics, it has to be taken into account that Olympics provide a cultural share among countries and a chance for the sportsmen in beating personal and world records. Thus, due to these valuable things, hosting the Olympics is not a huge waste of money.

The Ease of Taking the ELTS Exams Nowadays

In these recent days taking the IELTS exam, one of the requirements for students who come from non-English speaking countries prior to their study in spoken English areas is much easier. One main reason is the accessibility of test compared with previously. These days, for example, there are numerous test centers in Indonesia which are easy to access. Indonesian students who want to study abroad do not have to waste their time making along journey to reach the test centers. Students from eastern part of Indonesia can possibly join a test in the nearest and access able test center in IALF Denpasar, Bali, instead of going to the other centers in Jakarta.

In addition, online learning materials are now available on the internet which allows people to learn practically and enjoyably. They might find the learning resources helpful enough in improving their knowledge. Consequently, they can reach the IELTS band score required by overseas institutions.

Furthermore, there are plenty of training courses offering students programs to enrich and upgrade their English skills. Participating intensively in a 3-month course, for instance, can be a beneficial pathway upgrading students ability in all four skills tested in the IELTS exam. As a result, by the end of the training, they are ready to join the test without worrying too much. However, sometimes the IELTS courses are unaffordable for people who come from a lower economic level.

Semangat baru terpupuk kembali. Senang bisa kembali bertemu warga EAP3mB, begitu sebutan untuk kelas B saya; EAP = English for Academic Preparation; 3m = 3 months. Teman-teman gokil yang seru-seru.

Bagaimana cerita liburan Anda? Mudah-mudahan Anda mempunyai cerita yang tak kalah serunya.

Some Stories Prior to My Three Months Pre-Departure Training in IALF Denpasar Part I

After spending for 4 days in Denpasar, finally I am pretty close to be a three mothers (a common word used famously among the IALF teachers for the ADS Awardee who will spend their Pre-Departure Training in IALF Denpasar for three months). I arrived (again) in Ngurah Rai International Airport Denpasar on July, 10th 2013. This was my second visit to Bali Island for other reason; the first one was joining Mathematics Olympics Competition in 2009; but now is for participating in the academic preparation before officially study in my dreamed university in Australia; The University of Adelaide. The Garuda landed around 3.15 p.m and I was overwhelmed for the second time due to the incredible view of the Ngurah Rai airport. I was wondering in my mind, “When will Eltari Airport in Kupang looked like this?” My friends and I then booked a taxi to pick us up to the IALF office located in Sesetan Raya Street 190. During the trip from the airport to IALF office I felt pretty excited as some friends of mine were waiting us there. We took approximately 20 minutes to reach that office. We were welcomed warmly by some of NTT students who have 6 and 9 months for their PDT. They have been there before my friend; Erny Manlea and me. As the information, those who got 6 months of PDT have been in IALF since April 2013 while the nine mothers have spent one month prior to the three monthers’s. Erny and I are the three monthers category. I was surprised when mbak Ana Andra walked closer from her office to give her welcome greetings to us. “Nice to meet you again”, I said to mbak Ana. She was our amazing ELTA 2013 coordinator who always pushes and encourages the ELTA participants to be improved. Frankly speaking, she has inspired me so much since the first time we met. She then treated Erny and I drink and we were having such a great conversation. Interestingly is that the happily smiles, laughs and talks we were involved in. That was a beautiful moment of being such in a big family of ELTA. After having a wonderful welcome, I then picked up by one friend of mine to his dorm for keeping my luggage temporally there. My room would be ready 1 more hour so that is why we backed to IALF canteen and spent another hours talking. I was tired enough but because my excitement I totally did not feel tired anymore. We then had dinner together in K Yuana Hadjo cs dorm which is located in Gang Udang II; two blocks far from K Eky Ratu’s and my dorm. Another great welcome party as we had se’i for the main menu at that night. We spent crazy time together laughing almost all the time because of Eky’s funny stories as usual. I was very full both because just had my dinner and also because laughed overly.

Exploring Bali Part 1
